A tragedy close to home

The news about Charles David Lewis Jr., the co-founder of Tapout, a multimillion-dollar clothing line. Ripped through our hearts and those in the community that we and Charles grew up in.

Charles David Lewis was a graduate of Bloomington High School, a school that many of our friends and my soon to be wife went to school.

After High School Lewis enlisted in the Marine Corps, then joined the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department before chasing a dream that would bring him wealth and fame.

He and his friends sold T-shirts at local gyms and events before founding the company in 1997.

Known as "Mask," Lewis often wore face paint as he and his business partners tore through the mixed-martial-arts industry.

Lewis has always been known as a man who encouraged others to pursue their dreams. In fact, we have been inspired by his story many times as we have faced obstacles while chasing our dream.

His story and his death hits even closer to home when we found out the news on our birthday March 11.
