Christopher George Latore Wallace was born in a struggle. His mother and father gave birth to him on May 21, 1972. His mother a pre-school teacher and his father who left his mother to raise him alone was a politician and welder . Christopher was a great student and very smart, receiving several awards in English. Christopher was nicknamed “Big” do to his large size. Growing up in the middle of the crack epidemic in the late 1980’s, he began dealing drugs at the age of twelve. At the age of seventeen Christopher dropped out of school and became further involved in criminal activity leading him to probation and ultimately landing him in prison for nine months
As a teenager he recognized his passion (Music) and began rapping. He would go on to record a demo album, soon to be named in The Source’s Unsigned Hype column. The Demo was soon heard by Sean “Puffy’ Combs at Uptown Records, Christopher was soon signed to Uptown Records, but Sean Combs would be be fired shortly after and Christopher would follow him to a place more like home “Bad Boy Records”.
