When she was eleven she met Sean Harris one of the first people that she shared her serious ambitions to become a writer and one of the only people who told her that she was destined to write and be great at it. In 1983 she went on to study at the University of Exeter, forced to study French by her parents, when she wanted to study English. She now wishes she would have stood her ground with her chosen major.

In 1990 after she left the university and began working at Amnesty International, she then decided to move in with her boyfriend in Manchester. One day as she was traveling back to London on a crowded train, Harry Potter had entered her mind. This was a moment that she will never forget. Time froze during the four hour train ride as she gave all her thoughts to the most exciting story that she had ever sketched out in her mind since the age of six. That evening when she got home she began writing "Philosophers Stone" and since then she has never stopped.

In December of 1990 her mother passed away giving another edge to the great story that she would be known for. Harry's character would now have deeper embeded emotions regarding his parents deaths.

In 1991 J.K. Rowling moved to Portugal where she would live for 3 years, during those three years she got a job working at the language institute teaching English. This job was prefect, giving her the freedom that she required to write her novel. J.K. fell in love and married a Portuguese man and even though her marriage did not work out she did gain something more valuable to her, her baby girl Jessica.

In 1994 they both moved with her sister in Edinburgh. With the intent to get a job teaching J.K. Rowling knew that she would first have to finish her novel, Then Finally after many months of balancing her child as a single mother and writing she finished the book. Once it was finished she sent out for agents to represent her to find a publisher. After many declines in 1996 she found a publisher with the help from her agent Christopher.
